ABOUT TEACH FOR NEPAL

Teach for Nepal is a movement of outstanding university graduates and young professionals who are committed to end education inequity in Nepal starting with two years of fellowship teaching in public schools.

Teach For Nepal fellowship is a two year long, full-time paid employment opportunity. During the two years, Fellows teach in public schools and bring about academic achievement and transformative impact in their students. At the same time, they harness their leadership skills through the teaching experience and intensive development training and support.

OUR VISION

ONE DAY ALL CHILDREN IN NEPAL WILL ATTAIN AN EXCELLENT EDUCATION.

When our students are 25:

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

They will attain Bachelor degree with ability to think, comprehend, process and reach a logical conclusion. A Bachelor’s degree ensures access to job and further educational opportunities. It will give them more competitive edge in the job market. At the same time our students will have 21st century life skills that will expand their life and livelihood opportunities.

FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE AND SAVVY

We want our students to attain financial independence that would allow them to live a fulfilling personal and family life. They will have a sustainable means to livelihood that will ensure steady income and security from emergency incidents. They will earn enough to be able to comfortably meet their basic needs of food, shelter and clothing and security. They will be able to maintain a good quality of life in terms of physical, mental and emotional health. Our children should be able to make good financial decisions in terms of spending, saving and investment. They will have some savings for any emergency, or for them to be able to pursue higher education or start their own enterprise.

POSITIVE ROLE MODEL IN THEIR SOCIETY AND DEMONSTRATE A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY TOWARD PEOPLE AND FUTURE OF THE COMMUNITY

Our student will contribute to the society by being a positive role model and initiating or being involved in the community development activities. They will be politically aware and active. Our students might move to a different city or a different country. But they will feel deep connection to their roots. They will find ways to support people in their community by engaging in direct and indirect service.

AWARE OF SYSTEMIC INJUSTICES AND ACT WITHOUT AND AGAINST PREJUDICES

Our students will be able to understand systemic injustices that they have been victims of. They will be able to see the social, political, cultural and economic systems and structures that create inequity and injustices. At the same time they would be able to empathize with other groups who may come from different caste, gender, economic backgrounds but are essentially, the victims of structural inequity and injustices. Their understanding of the injustices they face as well as an understanding of the systems and structures that constitute oppression, would result in an elevated sense of responsibility to act without and against all forms for prejudices.

RESILIENCE/PERSEVERANCE

Our students will continue to face several challenging situations, prejudices, biases and set backs in life. Even if they have the best scores in exams and have the best of abilities, they will continue to be victims of unfair and corrupt systems and face cultural and social barriers. They need to be resilient and be able to persevere through difficult times so that they don’t have break down under pressure. Especially girls need to be empowered to make choices and pursue their vision amidst social and cultural obstacles.

FEEL A DEEP CONNECTION TO THEIR ROOTS AND ABILITY TO CELEBRATE AND ACCEPT OTHER CULTURES AND DIVERSITIES

Our students will feel a deep connection to their roots regardless of what part of the country or the world they are.  Our students will actively participate in social events and festivals. They will remain responsible towards celebrating, preserving as well as challenging different aspects of their culture. They will have a critical understanding of their cultures, being able to look at both the strengths and challenges within their culture. At the same time they will be able celebrate and accept other cultures and diversities as well as posses critical awareness of other cultures.

SPIRITUALLY AWARE/AWAKENED

It is important for our children to be happy. It is important for them to find joy from simple things in life. It is important for them to understand the limitations of materialistic life. In order for these to happen, they need to understand themselves, be self-aware, and be self-reflective.
